Meet The Artist
What can I say about myself?
My name is David Ben. I am a painter, illustrator, and designer, based in Portland, Oregon. I have always been inspired by classical Disney art, character design, nature, and most of all, the ocean. At this point in my life you can find my work in everything from children’s literature to cute holiday wrapping paper.
I discovered my love for painting creatures while studying marine biology at Oregon State University. Even while working as a biologist, I found himself drawing the creatures around me and tried to imagine them with cute and “sassy” personalities. Alas, this was always a struggle for me… Be an artist? or a scientist?
So I decided to do BOTH.
I work in both traditional and digital mediums and I often try and find ways to marry the two. These days I am typically painting in gouache or in photoshop.
